Dr Chantal Lockey was delighted to attend the Leave for Every Loss event at The Palace of Westminster
The “Leave for Every Loss” campaign, led by the Miscarriage Association and supported by partners including the Co-op and Sarah Owen MP, has achieved a major milestone in UK employment law by successfully advocating for statutory bereavement leave for pregnancy loss before 24 weeks.
Following an event at the House of Commons on October 15, 2025, to celebrate this progress, key updates regarding leave for every loss are:
New Legislation: The Government has committed to recognizing pre-24-week pregnancy loss as a bereavement in employment law.
Proposed Entitlement: While the campaign fought for two weeks’ paid leave, current proposals in the Employment Rights Bill (which received Royal Assent in Dec 2025) are for one week of unpaid leave.
Timeline: The new rights are expected to be implemented in late 2026 or 2027.
Partners’ Rights: The new law will also provide legal recognition of leave for partners who experience pre-24-week loss.
Mylene Klass MBE spoke passionately about her own experience at the event.
